The quest for minimally invasive, minimal downtime procedures for facial rejuvenation and skin enhancement has led both doctors and patients down paths that have been a mixture of disappointing results and exciting improvements. One technique that has shown exciting improvements is microneedling, now offered at The Med Spa at Clymer Facial Plastic Surgery. This technique initially involved the use of a roller that had tiny needles on its surface. This roller was passed over the skin with gentle pressure. The intended effect of these micro skin pricks is the stimulation of collagen which in turn improves skin texture, tone, fine lines, and acne scarring. Recently, advancements in the technique have led to the use of electronic pen shaped devices that make a very controlled, reproducible micro puncture of the surface of the skin, and in doing so, trigger collagen production. This technique has been shown to be a safe and effective option for treatment of wrinkles, acne scars, and even some types of stretch marks. Patients are instructed to skip make-up for 24 hours after the treatment, and then may resume all normal activities. To achieve the best results possible with microneedling, a series of four treatments with three weeks between each treatment is recommended. In addition to the improvement in their skin, the minimal downtime is one feature of this treatment that patients enjoy, as it allows the treatment to fit into most people’s busy lifestyles. If you don’t have much downtime, and want to improve the texture of your skin or improve scars, call our office and get a consultation at The Med Spa at Clymer Facial Plastic Surgery.
